WELCOME!
Established by local
residents in the mid 1990s, the Mead Area Community
Foundation works with donors from all walks of life
who want to create unique funds to improve our local
community. By helping donors help our community
through charitable giving, we are working to build a
community endowment for the long-term benefit of
Mead, Colorado and the immediate surrounding area.
What is a Community Fund?
A community foundation is a collection of individual funds and
resources given by local citizens to enhance and support the quality of life in
their community. It is a tax-exempt public charity that allows individuals,
through gifts and bequests, to establish permanent endowment funds within the
confines of one large foundation. The income from these funds -- and the
principle if so desired by the donor -- can help a community respond to emerging
problems and opportunities as well as prepare for its future.
Legally a
nonprofit organization, a community foundation is governed by a board of
trustees knowledgeable about community needs and representing the public
interest. Community foundations are treated for tax purposes as publicly
support charities. That status entitles donors to tax deductions that can often
be more favorable than those accorded private foundation donors.
Community
foundations offer a variety of options for each donor, and can involve
second-generation family members in recognizing a families contributions to the
community. Community foundations offer a variety
of options for each donor -- advised funds, designated
funds, field-of- interest funds and unrestricted funds. All
of these funds can be named for the donor, and can involve
second-generation family members in recognizing a family's contributions to the
community. |
